I had the pleasure of being invited to Milwaukee to photograph the Pakistani Valima of Aleem and Suraiya at the beautiful River Club in Mequon. For those of you who may not know what a Valima is, it is a reception held by the groom’s family, typically the day after the wedding. Aleem and Suraiya were married in New York City, so they waited until the following weekend to celebrate their Valima in Milwaukee. Both doctors finishing their residency, they had a tight schedule, but made the journey from New York to Milwaukee to celebrate their nuptials in Aleem’s home town. With about 300 close friends and family in attendance, it was a blockbuster event filled with life-long family friends and heartfelt speeches. I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to photograph and capture this event for the Bakhtiar family, knowing these images will be cherished for generations to come as Aleem and Suraiya join together and start their lives together.
